The World Mining Congress 2016: Kazakhstan made a report
October 19. Rio de Janeiro. On October 18 in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) the 24th World Mining Congress was opened, in the framework of which the plenary session with the government representatives of the largest countries of the mining sector was held.
According to the report of the WMC Press Service, at the session Zamir Saginov, Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Investments and Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan made an official report on behalf of Kazakhstan. The report included statistics data about the mining industry of Kazakhstan, forecasts about the development of the industry, as well as the potential of the country’s MMC sector. “Due to competitive fields and favourable economic conditions, the mining operations in Kazakhstan are characterized by its stability and steady growth even under the conditions of cyclicality of international market trends and volatility of the global prices”, - highlighted Saginov in his report.
In addition, on the first day of the Congress the discussion meetings, in which the representatives of the world’s leading companies of the mining and smelting sectors participated, were held Benedict Sobotka, CEO of ERG S.a.r.l., spoke at the discussions with the global mining companies and expressed his own opinion on the topic of novelties applied in the sector, as well as the innovations that can improve the performance of MMC companies.
In the second plenary session on “Past, Present and Future: The Evolution of the Dialogue and Knowledge Obtained in the Course of the World Mining Congress” Abdurasul Zharmenov, CEO of “National Centre for Complex Processing of Mineral Raw Materials of the Republic of Kazakhstan” RSE took part. The participants discussed theoretical and practical components of holding the WMC.
“I think these meetings will be the reason for attracting investments in Kazakhstan’s geological exploration and mining sector. Today, over 2,000 participants are here; the information we have provided spreads all around the world. I believe that in 2018 more participants will arrive in Astana to attend the WMC and the steps, we are making now, will contribute to attracting investments in Kazakhstan”, - noted Zamir Saginov.
On October 19 in the framework of the WMC 2016 a whole range of bilateral meetings on potential cooperation was held. Zamir Saginov, Executive Secretary of the MID of the RK, Kanat Baitov, Deputy Chairman of the Industrial Development and Industrial Safety Committee of the MID of the RK, Galym Nurzhanov, Chairman of the Board of “Kazgeology” JSC, Yevgeniy Bolgert, Managing Director of the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs of the RK “Atameken” held meetings with the representatives of AngloAmerican, VALE, Bahia Mineracao and other world leaders. According to the results the agreements on cooperation and participatory development of the countries of the mining sector were reached.
“The negotiations with Ruben Fernandez and Edson Ribeiro, Heads of AngloAmerican and VALE were successful. We place particular emphasis on the Brazilian companies operating in the mining sector to attract them in Kazakhstan”, - Bolgert explained.
It should be noted that the main topics of the meetings were potential forms of the cooperation, as well as the potential of the mineral raw material base of the participating countries of the WMC 2016. “The guests show huge interest in Kazakhstan’s stand, which is organized by the National Agency “Kaznex Invest”. Our pavilion was recognized as one of the best. The program is extensive, many meetings are being held with the leading mining companies and as a result of the meetings there is an agreement on continued cooperation on the territory of Kazakhstan”, - said Meirzhan Maikenov.
We would like to remind that the 24th World Mining Congress began its work on September 18 and will last until October 21, inclusive. On the last day of the Congress the transfer of “Oil Lamp” – the baton for holding the WMC to Kazakhstan will take place. Kazakhstan delegation consisting of over 40 people from the MID of the RK, “Atameken” NCE of the RK, “KIDI” JSC, “Kaznex Invest” JSC, “Kazgeology” JSC, “Tau Ken Samruk” LLP, “KAZ Minerals Management” LLP and others will participate in the Congress.
