At the beginning of 2009, Iteca, the leader of exhibition business in Kazakhstan, took a number of crisis-proof steps. As it was agreed with the partners, exhibiting costs for the participants of exhibitions and conferences organised by Iteca were significantly reduced. These crisis-proof steps included lower accommodation costs for the exhibitors staying in the partner hotels, reduction of freight costs and customs duties, discounted charges for rent of exhibition equipment, etc.
Notwithstanding the fact that local exhibitors have been always enjoying favourable participation conditions (exhibition costs of the local companies were always lower than those of the foreign exhibitors), in 2009 the discounts for exhibition space leaseholders became even more flexible than ever before. Iteca offers more flexible payment terms with individual approach to discounted rates and payment periods depending on the situation and financial capacities of the clients.
Iteca’s studious marketing policy and timely crisis-proof steps contributed to success of spring exhibition season, which started on 3 March 2009 with KazBuild Spring and WinTecExpo Kazakhstan, two construction exhibitions held in Almaty.
Exhibiting space of KazBuild Spring 2009 and WinTecExpo Kazakhstan 2009 comprised 170 stand expositions of 200 companies from 17 countries covering more than 900 trademarks and brands.
Atyrau Oil & Gas 2009 Exhibition held in Atyrau in April 2009 was in the focus of attention of local and foreign petroleum experts. Atyrau Sports Complex traditionally played host to the exhibition organised by Iteca in cooperation with its international partners. 100 companies from 13 countries participated in the event. Alongside with the exhibition Renaissance Atyrau Hotel played host to the two-day OilTech Kazakhstan 2009 Conference. As a part of exhibition events a few meetings with participation of the heads of accredited diplomatic missions, businessmen and government representatives were held. On 23-25 April 2009, Iteca held three exhibitions in Atakent Exhibition Centre in Almaty - KITF 2009, HOREX 2009 and KazRealty 2009.
Kazakhstan International Tourism and Travel Fair KITF 2009 was the largest one. Some experts suppose that its commercial results even took the shine out of large similar exhibitions held in Russia and Ukraine in 2009. The organisers – the Ministry of Tourism of Kazakhstan, ITE Group Plc and Iteca – reported on enhanced interest of potential exhibitors in their participation in KITF. In 2009, some hundreds of companies from 37 countries participated in the exhibition with 17 national expositions displayed. Alongside with KITF, Iteca held Real Estate Exhibition KazRealty 2009 with major participation of foreign companies. The exhibitors were represented by 40 companies from Cyprus, Czech Republic France, Kazakhstan, Russia, Switzerland, Turkey, and United Arab Emirates. Among the other notable exhibition events was a presentation of Gauhartas Residential Estate made by MAG JSC, a real estate developer from Kazakhstan.
The 2nd Cooking Congress held as a part of HOREX 2009 Exhibition – Everything for Hotels, Restaurants, Supermarkets was the most long-awaited event for chefs and restaurateurs. The exhibition was a triumph of Kazakhstan hospitality business. The master class ‘New Items in the European Cuisine’ by Alexander Tregubenko, President of the Association of Chefs, turned out to have most attendees. Notably, the USA Poultry & Egg Export Council (USAPEEC) was the General Sponsor of the Cooking Congress for the second time.
APEC 2009 Conference that opened in Astana on 28 April 2009 in Rixos President Astana Hotel was the next stage of the spring marathon of Kazakhstan exhibitions. The conference focused on social responsibility of oil and gas producing companies with the examples and prospects of future social partnership, education and environmental control. The conference was sponsored by Tengizshevroil, FMC Technologies and other well-known oil producers.
The event was attended by businessmen and officials from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Public Education and Science, KazMunaiGas National Company JSC, KazMunaiGas E&P JSC, Tengizshevroil LLP and heads and representatives of 10 diplomatic missions accredited in Kazakhstan.

More than 30 companies from Germany, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Sweden, and Uzbekistan exhibited their products and services.
May 2009 was marked by a few large exhibition projects.
Almaty played host to KIHE 2009, the largest in Central Asia 16th Kazakhstan International Healthcare and Dental Equipment and Services Exhibition. Its consistent sponsors were represented by Iteca and its international partners – ITE Group Plc (UK), GIMA (Germany), and EUF A.S. (Turkey). The exhibition area took 6,000 square meters with the exhibits of 150 manufacturers and distributors of medical equipment from 18 countries. The list of exhibitors included manufacturers of medical equipment from China, Jordan, Germany and local companies.

At the end of May, Almaty played host to the 16th International Central Asian Telecommunications, Computer and Information Technologies Exhibition KITEL 2009 and the Conference on Digital TV held for the second time as part of KITEL exhibition. The Conference was organised in cooperation with the National Association of TV and Radio Broadcasters of Kazakhstan. The conference was addressed by prominent businessmen and officials. In addition, as it was agreed with the sponsors, Iteca acted as a strategic partner of Software Engineering Summit 2009 (SES) held in Kazakh-British Technical University on 29-20 May 2009.
This year, KITEL exhibitors were represented by 60 companies from 10 countries including China, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Netherlands, Norway, Russia, South Korea, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, and USA.
KazakhTelecom JSC, Samat Show Technics Company, General DataComm (Russia) and many other exhibitors displayed their know-how. The spring exhibition season was crowned by two exhibitions held in Astana, the 11th Kazakhstan International Exhibition InterFood Astana (food industry) and AgriHort Astana (agriculture) held on 10-12 June 2009. Around 100 companies from 15 countries participated in InterFood Astana 2009 with their food stuff and food production equipment, while AgriHort Astana 2009 demonstrated innovations in agricultural equipment and machinery.
Participation of Iteca’s management in the round table meeting initiated by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and attended by the representatives of the customs, non-governmental organisations and 15 leading exhibition companies was the final event of the spring exhibition marathon. The exhibitors discussed the problems and prospects of exhibition business in Kazakhstan.
In the light of current business situation the speech of Aidar Kazybayev, Chairman of the Trade Committee, gave the exhibitors confidence in their future prospects. He highlighted the importance of new legislative and other tools to support exhibition business in Kazakhstan and integration of efforts of the government and exhibition companies to attract local and foreign customers to Kazakhstan’s goods and services market.
This optimistic note crowned the spring exhibition season. It gives hope that joint efforts of the government and all exhibitors of Kazakhstan exhibition market aimed at further progress of our country will contribute to establishment of new partner relations, which in their turn will speed up both local and foreign exhibition companies in overcoming crisis without serious consequence.
